Is it true 90% of startups fail, 10% succeed? What do the 10% do differently?

@brknbutrfly35 I’ve replied in another comment but I wanted to add this. This is why: https://www.plainenglish.co.uk/component/content/category/24-campaigning-and-awards.html I can’t explain it any better than those guys already do.

Is it true 90% of startups fail, 10% succeed? What do the 10% do differently?

@brknbutrfly35 I think that because they are at best in group jargon. I mean, why say some guff like “increase the surface area of luck” when you can say plain English like “always be in a position to take opportunities when they arise”.

I interviewed 3 YC founders on pricing AI products (they all hate usage-based)

@pamelalove Honestly not 100% sure. Taking some clues from OpenAI themselves: you can set a monthly spending limit. This gives some comfort that you aren't going to be billed a gazillion dollars at the end of the month. Obviously cutting off service completey isn't going to work for a lot of...

Is it true 90% of startups fail, 10% succeed? What do the 10% do differently?

@johndaniels 1-5 are absolutely 1 million percent spot on correct 6-8 are contrived, sound-smart-without-saying-anything, vague nonsense.

I interviewed 3 YC founders on pricing AI products (they all hate usage-based)

@pamelalove A big part of it is the unpredictability. If it's $x per gigabyte and you store y gigabytes you know your costs are $x*y. Same with API calls, $x per API call and you make y calls. But with LLMs you have no idea exactly how many tokens its going to spit out or if its going to loop...

    Thoughts on hiring contractors to

@faithlife No self respecting contractor is going to really want to pick up a half done project in some stack that may or may not be their preferred one. Anybody that does pick it up will very likely just be doing it for the money. And when you question how many hours they’re billing they’ll...

I was reading through the history of this topic on this sub and I’m curious about something that doesn’t seem to get mentioned…

@gladtobeelect I wouldn't. They won't be professional investors and won't comprehend the risk level. Proper investors consider that their money is in the trashcan and IF they get any back 5-10 years later then that's a bonus. Family and friends won't think like that. They'll wonder what...

I interviewed 3 YC founders on pricing AI products (they all hate usage-based)

@cassandra It’s not really about a lack of transparency. It’s a lack of predictability. I mean, apologies if you don’t use an LLM, my point was about people using say, the OpenAI or Anthropic APIs. It’s transparent to say “I’ll charge you $x per token” but it’s not predictable because the...

I interviewed 3 YC founders on pricing AI products (they all hate usage-based)

@cornbreadfed614 This is the exact same fear the provider/developer has, they are just passing it on to the customer so they don't have to worry about it. I mean, the developer is worried about how many tokens their customers will cost them with OpenAI, but it seems kind of silly to a)...

What We Look For In Founders

@singularityone It’s cool. Have you tried deepfaking his face onto another speaker? Legal gray area tbh. But so is deepfaking his voice which you’re already doing.
