A keto diet app - helps decide what to eat

Hey everyone, I’ve built a web app for people on a keto diet that helps decide what food to order. The idea is simple - take a photo of a menu, hit submit, and the photo gets augmented with interactive labels about the food, allowing you to find keto-friendly options quickly.

You can check it out here: https://eatsm.art

The market is big - the r/keto subreddit alone has 2.3m members. More detailed numbers: “The global ketogenic diet market size was valued at USD 9.57 billion in 2019 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.5% from 2020 to 2027” (https://www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/ketogenic-diet-market).

There’s no direct competitor, at least not that I’m aware of. I couldn’t find an easy way to check what I can eat when I was starting the diet myself, and researching every ingredient in restaurant dishes is painful and too time-consuming. Most diet-related apps focus on tracking macros, whereas my app approaches the problem from a different angle - you use it before eating, not after.

Right now I’m validating the idea to see if it brings value to people. I’m coding it myself so I don’t need funding at this stage, but in the future I’m not ruling that out if the idea takes off.

Ultimately, I want this project to be a mobile app that works with more types of diets. I want to acquire users through ads and being an active part of diet-oriented communities. To monetise the app, I want to use a freemium model, where people will pay for unlimited photo analyses and access to dieticians.

Why am I the best person for this project? I know a lot about keto diet and software development, so I’ve decided to solve a problem that I’ve encountered myself.

Thanks in advance for any feedback. Have fun!
