Hey everyone, I'm Yannick, co-founder of Hypefury and a digital marketer.

The most important day in the year for many marketers and entrepreneurs is coming.

Black Friday.

Here are 7 Great Black Friday Campaigns from the last decade with examples on how you can use them in your biz to earn more revenue.
  1. The Slow Burn
Instead of just blasting emails on Friday morning, Apple whet peoples' appetite before the big day.

They teased people before the sale, even disclosing the exact discounts offered.

Apple locked their audience's wallets well in advance.

Idea for you -
  • Tease your audience starting this Friday
  • Send more emails/tweets to stay top of mind
So, when you make the final offer, you won't have to persuade anyone

You only have to show them where to buy.
  1. Anticipation by ‘negative’ publicity
There’s nothing like a “leak” to drive interest and attention.

A news item presented that Costco's Black Friday ad had been leaked, giving a sneaky preview into some of the discounts.

This made people curious and drove more sales! 👀

Idea for you -

Give people bigger discounts than you mentioned - making them think they're robbing you or just surprising them (positive publicity)

Word will spread far and wide. Thanks to surprised customers.
  1. Your Brand Emotion + Donation
Outdoor clothing brand Patagonia has always advocated charitable causes.

In 2016, they donated 100% of their earnings to environmental charities.

The campaign perfectly matched their brand identity and resonated with their audience.

Idea for you -

Take the donation route as well or certify your brand's identity by helping people with a percentage of sales.

Eg. If you're in the fitness niche, you can use 10% of your earnings to help people who can't pay for the gym.
  1. Pranks
Cards Against Humanity has a great sense of humor with its marketing and publicity stunts.

They did a 180 and didn't give a discount but asked for $5 more in 2013, and actually managed to sell more games than usual 😂

Idea for you -

Well..you can also increase your prices :p or you can have a hearty wholesome honest prank with your customers.

Keep it simple, stupid and let them know they're not just connecting with a brand but a human.
  1. Not a discount, but bundles!
Instead of offering a discount, Chanel added a bonus item for purchases

This INCREASED the value of their product with a 2 for 1 deal.

It became a no-brainer for customers to buy because they were getting more for the same price.

Idea for you -

Package your products instead of giving a discount.

You can also have small add-ons limited for the holiday season.

Like a template alongside your planner.
A swipe file alongside your ebook.
Or two products of your niche clubbed together for a median price.
  1. Giveaways
Everyone loves surprises and especially during Black Friday!

UGC cinemas in France decided to offer free tickets and popcorn to their audience via a jackpot.

They did so by an interactive campaign where you could win the "jackpot" by playing a small game.

Idea for you -

You can do a giveaway after every x sales.
You can also giveaway a popular product with your sales.
You can also do jackpot-based giveaways.

The sky is the limit.
  1. Offer something more valuable than discounts
You can also take a U-turn away from discounts and codes.

Instead, offer them something more valuable—gift them an experience.

Barnes and Noble’s offered something valuable to their target audience - signed editions of books.

Idea for you -

If you can, add a personalized call or a card from you - on every purchase.
If you're a SAAS you can offer a free live setup.
If you're a fitness trainer you can offer a free 15 min Q&A session.

Anything which is feasible and makes you unforgettable!

Have a great BF21 y'all!

Cheers.
