So, the great thing about this approach is that you can do it manually or by leveraging social listening tools that can automate the searching for you.
Regardless of your approach, here's what I recommend searching for..
Level 1 - The Youngling: Search for mentions of your own brand/product.

Obviously, this is most relevant for established products. If you have an established product you need to keep a pulse on what customers are saying about you. This allows you to identify key customer advocates that you can reach out to and form affiliate deals with in order to generate even more customers.
Level 2 - The Padawan: Search for mentions of your competitors.

Now this is one that a lot of people don't even think about. But it may actually be more valuable for you to listen to what people are saying about your competitors.
For example, you can see here what this person said the other day on Twitter about NordVPN. If I was a NordVPN competitor it would be a great time to chime in and let the customer know that we approach things differently.
Level 3 - The Jedi Master: Search for keywords your potential customers might mention.

Now interestingly this is the approach we have found to be most impactful. You would be amazed at the number of opportunities that occur daily on social media where people are literally asking for recommendations on great products to use. You don't wanna miss out on these opportunities.

Now, this is something we certainly don't recommend but we thought we'd mention it as a kind of fun bonus.
Some of our users have set up fake personas on social media that they then combine with step 3. Essentially they become their own customer advocate who listens to opportunities and then recommends their product as an alternative.
Now we think this is a dangerous approach because it's easy to get burned by this. So keep that in mind if you ever decide to go to the dark side. It's probably not worth it.
Step 4 - Droid Level: Automate or outsource.

I highly recommend automating and outsourcing social listening as much as possible. We want to be your droid!
Keep a spreadsheet of common responses to make it easier for you to quickly copy and paste depending on the scenario.
You can either hire a virtual assistant or use a tool.
