Is it better to have Shorts and long-form content on two different YouTube channels?

@belaya_zvezda YouTube recognizes that a creator may have multiple channels.

I would keep same channel for shorts and long form as I would want to post shorts out of long form content.

Choosing between a same vs. second-channel Shorts strategy is more about your creative vision, and less about performance risk. Think about the following:

Content Style

If your Shorts align with your long-form content, it might make sense to keep it on your main channel. However, if you plan to deviate, it might be best to create a new channel for your Shorts.

Channel Notifications

Viewers who have hit the notification bell will not be notified every time you post a Short. For channels uploading both long-form and Shorts, to avoid overwhelming your audience, we will target Shorts notifications at viewers who are likely to enjoy your Shorts.

@belaya_zvezda Shorts are how you get discovered, long form is how you get subscribers.

YouTube is pushing Shorts hard because of TikTok. Also less people are making shorts on YouTube, because it is relatively new and they are on TikTok. If your goal is to grow your channel, posting shorts will make the YouTube algorithm like your account more than people who do not. Why would you waste that?

Because shorts are short, people can discover 4 to 20 different creators in the same amount of time that they discover 1 through long form video. And because YouTube shows shorts from different creators side by side, it is effectively a free advertisement.

If your long form content has value to the same people who watch your shorts, then they will watch a few long form videos when they have a chance and that is when they will either subscribe or not subscribe.

Does that make sense?
