Ok so anyways I really enjoyed Ycombinators seminar on Partnership and its 100% free so check them out. Its not going to be the same for everyone, but for me with my Co-Founder we started being more self aware of our roles and the dynamic of our relationship. As the speaker from YC says a business partnership is an intimate thing, he describes it similar to marriage, you can see the comparison below.

Here is my summary "notes"

The Four Horseman - Type of Arguments

Criticism - Addressing all other issues on hand, and not the 1 major issue on hand

Contempt - Intention to insult. Don’t make things personal

Defensiveness - Not owning responsibility. Can’t move forward, because the person can’t admit there is a problem

Stonewalling - won’t engage and talk about a problem.

Make a plan before you fight

Divide and conquer

Divide the topics for ownership:
  • Money - Fundraising/Runway
  • Kids - Customers/Employees
  • Sxx - Performance
  • Time - Roadmap
  • Jealousy - Competition
  • In-Laws - Partnership (outside internal)
