Hi all,
I'd love to get your thoughts!
The business is at -> https://shepherd.com/
Shepherd.com just turned 3 years old, and I am working to turn it into a sustainable business. I love books, and it has been a joy to build so far. My goal is to create something to helpers find books they will LOVE, not just like. And doing that in a way that makes browsing for books fun and unique (as I think Amazon/Goodreads make it boring). I am working on reader features next!
The Product
For Readers - I want to make a fun/unique experience to discover books through topics, themes, and moods. I want to help readers find books they will LOVE, not just like. And I want to do that by building a profile of the books they LOVE and use that to match them with other readers who share similar reading styles. That part hasn't launched yet, but it is what I am working on now.
For Authors - I want to help them get in front of the most likely readers for their book in an authentic and honest way. Right now, we are doing through our book recommendation interviews like this one -> https://shepherd.com/best-books/understanding-ai-and-its-effect-on-people

Market Size
Huge, but super diverse in scope of what they read.
Business Stage
Shepherd is bootstrapped as there is not a lot of money in books.
The business model is to get to a break even point to fund new features through author and reader memberships, affiliate sales of books, and a little from display ads (although I hope to remove them one day).
