What we've seen

Web3 engineers are in very high demand. There are thousands of companies that have raised significant capital in the last 2 years to build in web3 but don’t have the talent they need.

Scarcity is driving huge salaries for web 3 engineers. In the US web3 salaries range from $150,000 to $400,000+, compared to the national salary average of $97,000 for web 2 engineers.

Why this matters

Engineers are now upskilling to meet this demand. 60% of web 3 developers entered the industry in 2021.

The typical route to web 3 is for web 2 developers to start working on freelance projects on the side. They find educational content and entry-level freelance gigs, build experience and reputation, until they can eventually transition into full time web 3 work.

It is difficult however for these ‘web 3 curious’ or ‘part-time web 3 engineers’ to find opportunities. Often called Grants, RFPs and Bounties, opportunities are shared within communities and across various Protocol websites and social channels.

The idea

Build a newsletter curating freelance opportunities and educational content to help web 2 engineers transition into web 3.

Each week could provide subscribers with the latest Grants, RFPs and Bounties which they can apply to, as well as guides or tips for how to apply and win opportunities.

Monetise through a traditional recruitment and sponsorship model.

Steps to Execute
  1. Find the top sources for Protocol Grants, RFPs and Bounties: join Discord servers, check job pages and follow social channels.
  2. Build a single-page website to communicate the value proposition and capture subscriptions. We like using Carrd or Webflow connected to MailChimp’s free plan.
  3. Get feedback on the landing page from web 3 curious engineers in your network.
  4. Share proposition, example newsletter content and landing page in Discord and Reddit communities.
  5. Curate fresh opportunities into a weekly newsletter. Use MailChimp to craft and deliver the email.
  6. Get feedback and monitor engagement rates.
  7. Develop tech to scrape fresh opportunities from sources.
  8. Monetise by contact engaged subscribers and Protocols directly to facilitate introductions. Act as a recruiter to help secure placements and capture commission e.g. % of first year salary. This could be up to $80,000 for an experienced developer.
  9. Monetise by offering Protocols ability to share freelance, job or hackathon opportunities directly in newsletters.
