Twitter has announced that linking to any competing social media platform is against its rules.
  • Brands will not be able to promote Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, or Post on Twitter.
  • Links to YouTube, Pinterest, Reddit, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and TikTok are allowed.
  • Twitter will continue to allow paid advertisements for any of the prohibited platforms.
  • Twitter will suspend accounts that violate these rules.
  • Bypassing the rules, such as using screenshots or spelling out "dot" in links, will also result in suspension.
  • In the further documentation of the new rule, Twitter also notes that: 3rd-party social media link aggregators such as linktr.ee, lnk.bio These are banned to, so you need to get rid of your Linktree links, as well as any other link aggregator.
(Update): Twitter has deleted the tweets announcing the policy that prohibited people from posting handles and links to other social networks. The company has also silently removed the policy page that detailed these rules. Meanwhile, the Twitter Safety account started a poll asking users if the company should form a policy on accounts used just to promote other social networks.

It's safe to assume, the algo will cut reach of tweets that will point to competing platforms.
