According to The Flash comics, S.T.A.R. Labs is a nationwide chain of research laboratories unconnected to the government or any business interests. This is why S.T.A.R. Labs is capable of creating advanced technologies, it doesnt work based on government contracts and only develops technologies that genuinely improve humanity. Right now there is no company that functions like S.T.A.R. Labs does and works solely on the devwlopment of groundbreaking technologies. My qeustion is, could a company like S.T.A.R. Labs exist in real life(assuming it made profit off of patents and discoveries in science and technology)? If so, what steps would need to be taken to initially create the company?
