Is it worth it?

Lately we’ve been seeing a huge hype in creator economy, indie hackers and build in public approach.

I’m seeing some really talented engineers who also have great marketing, product and design skills spin off awesome little SaaS businesses.

While I understand this as a side hustle, I am not sure how I feel about it as a main career. Especially in case of these talented people.

Seems like very few make a lot of money (like levelsio). Then there are some that make around 10-20k MRR. And they seem quite excited about it.

But is it really a lot compared to 200-300k/y most of these guys could make at large US tech companies? Often with valuable benefits, stock options, etc..? And probably without as much stress and hustle?

@allthenamesaretaken A SaaS making 20k MRR can sell for a milly. Thus, you can make a similar comp as working in a highly paid SWE job.

@allthenamesaretaken If your main motivation is big money, no. You won't make it and it's not worth it, because it's hard as hell and if you don't love it you'll quit before you get there.

But if you don't give up it can't certainly change your life, it did mine. It took a long ass time, but then things changed very fast.
