Filtering out "Idea Guys", even if they have done some research

@christianmusthaves I am the "idea guy" and have about 60 different ideas for viable businesses. That being said, my idea that I am running with is in my domain of experience. I ran database marketing operations for 17 $1 billion+ USD retail brands across channels. I have more knowledge and...

    Do Things That Don't Scale

@greyareagcu Depends on the relationship. People in sales will tell you that they have sold and resold to the same person in multiple jobs because they have a strong relationship built on trust. Likewise, a strong relationship with someone deeply ingrained and able to influence your ICP could...

Anyone thought of how AI will disrupt consumer marketplace startups?

@chapmic As a customer I know what I am willing to pay for an item at any point in time. We know that some customers will pay full price, no discounts. We know others will require heavy discounts. And yet others will be in between. Part of the product is showing merchants those insights. The...

Anyone thought of how AI will disrupt consumer marketplace startups?

@kenya38 Customer Generated Offers enable consumers to make offers to buy products and shipping carts from merchants rather than merchants making offers to them (and getting them wrong 97% of the time). Goal is increased conversion rates, cost effective customer acquisition. Spending time...

Anyone thought of how AI will disrupt consumer marketplace startups?

@pmsh Part of our strategy is to pull consumers off marketplaces. Marketplaces are merchant of record so the merchants filling the orders cannot market directly to those consumers. With the loss of third party cookies, acquisition costs are rising. Marketplaces can be as much as 25% on the...

Which is best C-Corp formation service for U.S. SaaS in 2023?

@elijah2017 I think we picked the $700 package that included filing in Delaware, Articles of Incorporation, 83b filings we had to send to the IRS, Authorization of 10MM shares and issuance of equity to co-founders. We picked up our EIN and a few other things. We opened an account with Mercury...

Y Combinator is not for the little guy anymore. (Or never been?)

@zedrick Okay, just to be clear, while a YC Start-Up School is awesome and worth more than the investment. YC is a VC - they are INVESTING in start-ups. It's easy to think that they are here to cheer everyone on, but they are investors. Period. That should help you with your experience - you...

Question for founders who have worked on a startup on top of a FT job

@gratefulnyc Priority 1: Family Priority 2: Current Income Priority 3: New Income Make the switch when you have the runway to swap Priority 3 and 2. Another thing to consider, direct customers are sugar, but agencies supporting customers can be just as sweet testing your product and exposing...

Is Y Combinator Worth it by Numbers?

@manofsteelandvelvet Not everything has to be about the money. The relationships you may make through YC alone could be worth literally millions of dollars. Everybody wants to make money. The "equity stake" or share of ownership can become such a HUGE distraction. The total value of a...

The application I used to get into YC as a solo founder and no revenue, AMA

@james_conor No trophy for me... :-(

I interviewed 3 YC founders on pricing AI products (they all hate usage-based)

@cornbreadfed614 One of the pieces of feedback we got from retailers is they HATE %OF Revenue deals. They cannot scale when everyone is scaling with them They much prefer $1200/month whether they run $1mm/month or $10mm/month over it But smaller merchants want pay as you go. So we do both.

The application I used to get into YC as a solo founder and no revenue, AMA

@james_conor Same - but I am 55. My sons are 17 and 21, kind of doing their own things. Hoping I can win a prize for the oldest applicant. The geriatric award from Y-Combinator!! :-)

    Garry's response to the rubric

Actually, if Mary Poppins was your cofounder, that might have some street cred somewhere in there. LOL

    Garry's response to the rubric

@trying_to_make_it Stop worrying about what makes YC happy or want your business. That's not what they want. Start focusing on building a strong, highly scalable unique business. That's what they want. They don't care if Mary Poppins is your cofounder as long as you are building something...

    Advice on unconventional potential cofounder

@carlo1 I am 55 and my co-founder is 39. I have 30 years in sales and marketing and 20 years in the market that we are working in. He has 15 years in programming and software engineering. We did a 50-50 split. he is working on the technical side of building a scalable infrastructure. I am...
