@beforetheseven Always fully serious. We shoot for a 55% margin on jobs, so, it was right in line with that. However, doing this so much I know that there's always a chance I'd be willing to negotiate it..

I also know that if I came in at $6250 initially, at the margin above, this specific individual would still have no urgency to move forward. I mean, it's been 12 years since they had the house painted, it's not an emergency.

Urgency is perception, and so is value. I used the negotiation to encourage movement on the deal. I do this all the time.
